02 Oct Why you need a password manager
It’s a challenge trying to remember of all of your passwords when you use so many different apps and accounts on the go. To help you remember passwords and make logging in simple, we recommend the use of a secure password manager like LastPass.
What is LastPass
LastPass is a password management tool. You create a LastPass account and this is the only password you will need to remember. Your LastPass account becomes your password vault. When you log in to an online account for the first time, LastPass will store your username and password so every time you go back your credentials will be filled in automatically. The tool can also generate secure passwords for you when you create a new account.
Is it safe?
As explained on the LastPass website, ‘while having all passwords saved in a central location appears insecure, LastPass works with some of the best cyber security minds and companies to ensure that the system is as safe as possible and that any flaws are identified and resolved usually before they are exploited.
Password Safety tips
- Don’t use the same password for multiple accounts. Always keep your passwords unique and complex to avoid a security breach.
- Use Multi factor authentication, especially for accounts related to your finances (e.g banking). Multifactor authentication (MFA) means adding extra layers of security, to prevent someone from accessing your account, even if they have your password. Download Microsoft’s MFA- Azure Multi-Factor Authentication or Google Authenticator to enable Multi-Factor Authentication on your important logins.
- Write your passwords down in a notebook. It might sound old school but it’s the one place hackers can’t get into. Pop your passwords down on paper and keep it somewhere safe, for your eyes only.
